Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the RainPacTM come in?
RainPacTM comes in 12 different standard sizes and configurations ranging from 1,000 litres to 8,600 litres in a single bladder. Additional storage of up to 100,000 litres can be achieved by joining multiple RainPacTM bladders together as long as the space is available. RainPacTM can be totally custom designed with FTA’s made to order service. If one of the standard sizes does not fit, please contact FTA’s nearest retail outlet and advise the area available to them, and FTA will advise the cost and availability within 48 hours.
How much storage do I need?
The size of the required RainPacTM depends on two things:
1. The size of the roof available; and 2. What you want to use the water for
To calculate the amount of water you can harvest from your roof, use this formula: 1mm of rain on 1 square metre of roof will give you 1000 litres of water.
What colour is it? Does it come in other colours?
The RainPacTM colour is aqua blue – very similar to that of the ocean. It is only available in one colour due to the highly specialised nature of the material and is approved for food grade purposes under Australian Standard 4020.

Virtually all parts are supplied for a standard installation where the downpipe is not more than 1 metre from the front of the RainPacTM.
Will the RainPacTM flexible bladder tank leak?
No. RainPacTM is manufactured using industrial strength fabric utilising the latest in hot air and high frequency welding. The RainPacTM manufacturing technology is taken from much larger industrial applications for bladders holding over 100,000 litres of fluids much heavier than water. The reinforced fabric is incredibly strong and is regularly used in the bulk liquid transport industry so it has excellent strength properties and will hold its shape, unlike some other brands on the market. RainPacTM uses the overlap method of welding the seams which is much stronger than the "fuse" method used by other brands, and all critical welds are completed using very strong and proved high frequency welding methods. Additionally, every RainPacTM is pressure tested to 2 psi (which is far more pressure than what will be in the bladder once installed) before it is despatched.
What about difficult access under my house or deck?
A RainPacTM flexible rainwater storage system will fit under your house as long as a person can get under your house. Ideally, a height of at least 700mm is preferred for the 1 – 1.3 metre wise bladders, and a height of at least 800mm is preferred for the 1.6 – 2 metre wide bladders, as it will enable maximum storage capacity for your RainPacTM. The bladder tank will fill to the height stipulated and dictated by its width, varying from 400 – 715mm. If space is tight, the overflow pipe can be set lower than the bladders maximum filling height. The height of the overflow pipe from the ground will determine the height to which the bladder fills.
Can a pump be connected?
Yes. Any type of pump and/or mains water control system can be connected to your RainPacTM flexible rainwater storage system.
Can it overfill?
Not if the RainPacTM is installed according to the installation instructions. It is essential that the overflow pipe be set correctly at no more than the recommended height of the bladder tank which is outlined in the installation guide.
Once the bladder is full, any excess rain will divert back through the filtration system to the existing stormwater piping. The RainPacTM includes a fail-safe relief point within the filtration system which will prevent it from filling above its recommended height.
Does the RainPacTM need to sit on level ground?
Yes. The ground under a RainPacTM cannot be sloping. It needs to sit on level ground in order to ensure that maximum storage is achieved (water won't defy gravity!) However you do not need to prepare the ground with concrete.
How good is the water quality?
The RainPacTM is made from fabric imported from the United Kingdom which is exclusive to the RainPacTM range. It is the only flexible rainwater storage system in Australia that is manufactured from fabric which has been tested and accredited to AS4020:2002 - Testing of products for use in contact with drinking water. This means that the quality of the water stored in your RainPacTM is safe for human consumption and safe for filling up swimming pools and fish ponds.
Does the RainPacTM come with a warranty?
Yes. The RainPacTM has a 10 year warranty as long as it is installed by a trade professional in accordance with the installation instructions. Unlike some other brands, the RainPacTM pro rata warranty covers both material and workmanship for a full 10 years and is manufactured by Flexitank (Australia) Pty Ltd, who have been manufacturing domestic, industrial, commercial and military bladders for a variety of purposes since 1988, and is an officially recognised Australia Defence Force supplier.
Can I claim a Government Rebate?
The RainPacTM qualifies for government rebates where they apply. It is advisable to check your state rebates to help find out more about rebates.
What can I use the water for?
The water stored in a RainPacTM can be used to water the garden, fill swimming pools or fishponds or can be reticulated back into the house for use in toilets and washing machines.
How much does the RainPacTM cost?
The RainPacTM price depends on the size you buy and whether or not you buy a pump. Speak with your selected RainPacTM retail outlet to get a price on both the RainPacTM and a pump to suit your needs.
What happens if I move house?
The RainPacTM is easily transportable so that if you move house you can simply empty the RainPacTM, roll it up and disconnect all the connections. As long as the RainPacTM will fit between the piers of your new house you can move it with all your other possessions and get a licensed plumber to re-install it for you. |
